“The Symbiogenesis Project Mural”, once an art and ecology workshop outcome with the hands of many many keen participants. The 8 panel work was acquired by Nillumbik council in 2011 for installation at Eltham’s Town square. The 18m work presents locally indigenous and ecologically significant flora and fauna. It presents an ‘ecological portrait’ of the regions river system telling the story of the unique ecological community and its interconnections and centers around the Birrung’s path through the shire.
Over the winter of 2025 the artists were invited by the collections team at Nillumbik arts to complete urgent restoration works to the 56-season-weathered community favorite. This Resulted in a total repaint of the work and significant repair to the marine ply substrate and steel framing.
It was such a pleasure to reconnect with Eltham’s ecology and the Arts and Collections team, and to again team-up and paint alongside Aviva Reed. Always a great joy to receive such overwhelmingly positive community support and encouragement.
